According to TMZ, authorities are now on the hunt to find the who allegedly sold the Boardwalk Empire star the narcotics that were found near his body after he was found dead in his Brooklyn home on Monday, September 6.

Sources told the news outlet that the drugs that cops obtained near William’s deceased body are said to have been heroin-based. While his death appears to be a drug overdose, an autopsy is under way to determine the exact cause of death.

As OK! previously reported, the native New Yorker was found unconscious in the living room of his Williamsburg penthouse by his nephew during the holiday weekend of a suspected drug overdose. Loved ones alerted authorities after the actor had not been heard from in days.

William’s representative confirmed the news to PEOPLE saying, “It is with deep sorrow that the family announces the passing of Emmy nominated actor Kenneth . They ask for your privacy while grieving this unsurmountable loss.”

The Emmy nominated actor opened up to the New York Times in 2017 about his struggle to overcome addiction and how the battle never really ends for people who struggle with substance abuse. “Addiction doesn’t go away. It’s an everyday struggle for me, but I’m fighting,” he explained at the time.

In a haunting final post to his Instagram six days prior to his untimely death, Williams uploaded a video of comedian Tracey Morgan saying “Don’t cry for me. OK,” referring to the the 30 Rock star’s 2014 near-fatal car accident.

The video continued with Morgan explaining, “I had a misfortunate accident. Don’t cry for me. Cry for all the others, man.”

Williams opened up to Tamron Hall back in February after filming Lovecraft County and admitted he decided to start going to therapy. “I just started therapy, you know, and really taking that seriously and starting to unpack, like you said, the critic in my head and what and how that has affected my – my actions, my responses to certain situations, my relationships,” the actor revealed.

Williams came to notoriety after his critically acclaimed turn as as Omar in The Wire. He has also starred in other projects like 12 Years a Slave and Boardwalk Empire.
