Laci, who was 27 years old at the time, mysteriously disappeared on Christmas Eve in 2002. Scott told authorities that he went fishing in his new boat and left their Modesto home at 9:30 a.m. When he returned to his house later that afternoon, he called his mother-in-law and told her that his pregnant wife was nowhere to be found.

The brunette’s remains and the body of her unborn child were found in the San Francisco Bay — just a few miles from where Scott claimed he had gone fishing — by someone walking their dog nearly four months later. Scott was eventually convicted on two counts of first degree murder and sentenced to death in 2005.

He remained on death row until 2020, when his death sentence was overturned, he is expected to face a new penalty phase trial at some point this year.

Janey admitted that although Scott is a cheater, it doesn’t make him a cold blooded killer. “I don’t think you can take that leap,” she explained.

Janey is attending law school in the hopes that she will be able to assist her family member if he is granted a new trial. She also believes the true murderer is still out there. “We don’t have justice,” she added. “This crime is not solved.”
