“We went to a place — I think it was on 54th street, called Circo. We sat in a corner and he actually ordered a bottle of red wine, which I thought was surprising because he was a Scientologist and they generally don’t drink,” Allan continued.

“And we’re drinking and talking, and the next thing I know,” the journalist said, “both of his front teeth out onto the table cloth right in front of me.”

Allan remembered feeling “speechless” at the time: “I mean, this is a face that’s on posters all over the world, good looking guy and there are his front teeth.”

Allan admitted that he told Cindy Adams about the incident later, and she was dying to cover the “delicious” story.

“I made the mistake of telling Cindy, who you know [said] ‘Oh my god that’s great, I’m gonna write that,’” he recalled, “and I said, ‘No you can’t do that. I gave Tom my word I wouldn’t do it.’”

During the episode, Adams finds out that Allan finally spilled the top-secret story, to which she responded, “Oy! Oh! How miserable. I hate him now. I mean, oh, that’s awful. I’m gonna use that whole story now. I’m now gonna write that whole story. Oh, that’s such a good story.”

The four-part Showtime docuseries premiered on August 22, and covers the “rise of tabloid media and the cut-throat players who blew up the news,” according to the series’ official site.
