“Frank is just going through a lot personally with addictions,” he dished to The Sun. “It’s unfortunate that he’s made decisions that have him the way he is.”

In late July after news began to surface that Fritz would no longer be partaking in the rare artifacts series, Wolfe posted a lengthy message via Instagram stating that he would “miss” him.

“I have known Frank for as long as I can remember, he’s been like a brother to me,” the 57-year-old ’s creator said in a statement on Wednesday, July 21. “The journey that Frank, Dani and I started back in 2009, like all of life, has come with its highs and lows, blessings and challenges, but it has also been the most rewarding.”

Fritz had been the cohost of the long-running series since its inception in 2010. His last episode aired in March 2020 and he was noticeably absent once the show returned from the pandemic-imposed hiatus. At the time he claimed he didn’t leave the show, but was sidelined due to back surgery.

Fritz revealed he checked himself into rehab following his back surgery. The troubled 55-year-old reality TV star has been open about his desire to return to American Pickers. “I’d still like to get back to my job, I miss my friends and my people and being on the road and meeting all those different characters,” he told the outlet.

After Fritz got the axe, the show’s shop manager, Danielle Colby, shared a lengthy message via Instagram expressing her dismay over his firing.

“I’m truly saddened for the loss of Frank on the show,” she captioned a selfie with Wolfe on Monday, August 2. “I’m incredibly sad for his struggles. I have personally watched everything over the last decade. I have many thoughts but won’t speak them as they are only my my [sic] thoughts, not gospel. I wish things could have been different but we must be accountable for our actions when we cause instability or pain and suffering to others.”

She continued: “Frank caused so much pain for himself that it has been hard to watch. I truly hope Frank receives all the help he needs to become well after years of being unwell. It is not my place to speak Ill of someone who needs help so I will keep my comments uplifting.”
