Dennis Quaid jammed out at the Hernando’s Hide-A-Way on Wednesday night playing piano and belting out tributes to rock n’ roll “wild man” Jerry Lee Lewis.

A venue rich with decades of history, music legends Elvis Presley and Johnny Cash have both played at the Memphis club at some point in their incredible careers, and now The Right Stuff actor can be added to the list of famous performers to grace the stage.

performed alongside country singer Dale Watson. OK! spoke with his wife, who is also the Hernando’s Hide-A-Way owner, Celine Lee Watson, about the rocking good time.

“They met through mutual friends,” Watson says, explaining that the Hollywood star and her husband’s mutual friends included David Ferguson, a music producer that works out of Nashville.

Knowing the amazing history of the club, Quaid — who once played the legendary Lewis in the 1989 biopic Great Balls Of Fire — reached out to Dale to set up a time to perform there himself.

According to Watson, the Frequency actor attended the laidback event with a group of musician friends, and later finished off the fun night with a stay at the famed Peabody Hotel in Memphis.

“He just had some food and jammed out […] We did a rehearsal to make sure that everything was ready for him,” she says, but Watson notes that hosting the celeb was far from a stressful night. “The vibe was really fun.”

“It was all word of mouth. We didn’t make a huge promotion about it.”

She goes on to explain that Quaid was fascinated by the musical history of Hernando’s, and eager to be a part of it, especially because he is a longtime fan of Lewis.

But Quaid may not be the only fan. Watson adds, “We’re friends with the Lewis family. He [Jerry] wasn’t able to come out but he was really excited to hear he [Quaid] was here”.

After a rockin’ jam session, Quaid ended the night by mingling with guests and taking pictures with fans.

When asked if there was a chance that The Parent Trap actor would ever return for an encore performance, Watson’s answer was that it’s possible.

“He lives in Nashville now. He was excited to be so close to Memphis”, she muses, saying that she suspects that there is a chance that he and her husband might put together another show in the future.
