When you think too much, you are feeding your biggest fears and insecurities. You are believing that nasty little voice in the back of your head that insists you aren’t enough. You are practicing self-hatred instead of self-love and self-acceptance.
When you think too much, you make assumptions. You assume your person is annoyed with you. You assume your person is getting bored of you. You assume you know exactly what your person is thinking without having a conversation with them about it. You don’t bother to ask them the questions that have been bugging you because you assume you already have them all figured out.
When you think too much, you create nonexistent drama. You assume your person texted you in a hostile tone when they were only joking around with you. Or you assume your person is pissed at you when they take too long to answer because you don’t realize they’re busy with something that has absolutely nothing to do with you.
When you think too much, you get upset over nothing. Instead of enjoying your relationship, you convince yourself your situation is too good to be true. You run a million dark and dreary scenarios through your head. You have fake arguments in the shower and the car. You get angry at your person before they even do anything to upset you.
When you think too much, you accidentally come across as inauthentic. Instead of saying the first thing that pops into your head, you rewrite texts over and over until you sound robotic. Instead of giving your honest opinion, you say what you think the other person wants to hear and end up looking like a clone. When you try too hard, you lose yourself along the way.
When you think too much, you end up living in the past or a fictionalized future. You aren’t able to enjoy the moment because you are lost in your thoughts, trapped in your own head. You miss out on important moments because you are too busy worrying about whether you said the wrong thing yesterday or whether it will come back to haunt you tomorrow.
When you think too much, you confuse your person. You give them the silent treatment for no apparent reason. You get snippy with them for no apparent reason. You are extra sensitive at random and they have no idea why because they can’t read your mind, they can’t guess where your trail of thoughts have led you this time.
When you think too much, you’re doing yourself a disservice. You’re worrying about issues that might not even exist outside of your own mind. You’re putting yourself through unnecessary heartache. You’re torturing yourself for absolutely no reason.
When you think too much, it can feel like a burden. It can drive you, and your person, absolutely insane. But you have to remember the reason you’re thinking too much is because you care too much. Because you love your person. Because you are terrified of doing something to chase them away.
