From the moment we wake up until the moment we go to sleep, we are bombarded with images of Instaperfect lives. More often than not, the pictures which make us feel most inadequate are those of other people’s bodies – which we stare enviously at while eating donuts, obvs.

Okay, maybe that’s just me, but it’s hard to deny that social media promotes unrealistic body types. Even if you surrender your Krispy Kreme and hit the gym, you could be left feeling frustrated when you compare your results with those of your favorite #fitspo Instagrammers.

To see exactly how Instagram is ruining people’s lives, check out the video below:

While Instagram has given rise to the body positivity movement, even if you only follow people who embrace what makes them different and imperfect, you’re never more than a few clicks away from the picture-perfect models and bloggers who dominate the app.

However, before you start inwardly singing the lyrics “Hello darkness, my old friend”, it’s a good idea to remember that these people are usually paid to post on the app – whether it’s for promoting certain sportswear, dietary supplements, or, y’know, a makeup brand.

Becuase of this, their photographs are staged. Yes, believe it or not, the pictures that inspire envy in you aren’t actually a reflection of reality!

In fact, sometimes the bodies you think are unobtainable are actually in worse shape than your own.

Don’t believe me? Well, it’s time you checked out 23-year-old Australian influencer Beck Jackson’s side-by-side photo comparisons.
