Calgary police have taken a man into custody who “may have been involved” in the disappearance of five-year-old Taliyah Leigh Marsman, and are searching an area east of the city, investigators say.

Police say the man may have had a connection to Taliyah’s mother, Sara Baillie, whose body was found in the home she shared with her daughter.

Taliyah has been the subject of an Amber Alert since early Tuesday, after her mother was found dead. The alert remains in effect.

Calgary police said early Thursday that the man, whose name has not been released, was taken into custody at about 10:30 p.m. MT Wednesday.
