Bravery comes in many forms – for some people whose lives are marred by panic and anxiety, simply popping out to shops is an act of bravery. For others performing or making speeches in front of crowds is a sign of courage.
But I think we can all agree saving someone from a dangerous and potentially lethal situation, risking your own safety in the process is one of the bravest things you can do.
Acts of sheer bravery happen on a daily basis, but this particular one was captured on the dash cam of heroic truck driver’s vehicle.
Watch David Fredericksen from Biloxi, Mississipi, rushes towards a car that had caught fire seconds after slamming with full force into a truck on the freeway:
David’s intention was to save those in the blazing car wreck: the driver and her one-year-old granddaughter, all while the majority of the onlookers remained in the safety of their cars.
The explosive crash occurred when the went the wrong way on an interstate and David along with other drivers saw the vehicle crash into the truck and explode before their eyes.
As soon as David saw the fiery crash, he stopped his car, picked up a fire extinguisher, got out of the truck and ran towards the car wreck, completely unaware as to what he would find.
“God, please don’t let me have to deal with somebody halfway burned alive, screaming,” he thought as he approached the vehicle.
David assumed the people in the car must have died from the devastating impact of the crash.
“Holy cow!” another man says. “That guy’s dead, dude.”
“You want me to go out there and see if I can get him out of the car?” Fredericksen said. “No, what are you gonna do?” the man says.
“I got a fire extinguisher,” David replies.
Soon enough, David saw that a 51-year-old woman and her one-year-old grandchild were inside.
At this point, four other men including David’s son came to help him bring the woman and the baby to safety. Together they pulled the woman and her granddaughter out of the car and amazingly they all survived.
We applaud the five men for their bravery – it takes a great deal of courage to risk your own safety to rescue strangers from danger.
We also hope the woman and the child are recovering well from this unsettling experience.
