The Parkland school in Florida shooting sent shockwaves around the world last week. It was the 30th mass shooting in the first 45 days of 2018 for the US, and since then, people have been calling for President Trump to take action so that such an atrocity never happens again.
Carried out by former pupil 19-year-old Nikolas Cruz, it claimed the lives of 14 students and three staff members.
Prior to the shooting, Cruz had already been reported to the FBI for claiming that he was going to become “a professional school shooter” in a YouTube comment under the name “nikolas cruz”. Despite posting it under his own name, the comment was not traced back to him.
Shockingly, the FBI was given a second opportunity to stop Cruz in January when their hotline received a tip-off that he had issued a death threat, but once again, nothing was done and it was not passed onto the relevant office in Miami.
This week, President Trump met with survivors to discuss what could be done to tackle the problem. The discussion is featured in the video below:
However, not all of the students that Trump spoke to are happy with his actions in the wake of the shooting.
